CEMETERY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

(aka Friends of Yuba County Cemeteries)

Our committee is composed of volunteers who are knowledgeable and skilled in the highest standards of historic cemetery restoration and preservation.  We have performed in-depth research into all aspects of protection, maintenance, and care of these precious burial grounds, and are available for consultation with local cemetery districts on specific issues.  The goals of this committee are to support the cemeteries within Yuba County in the following manner - with emphasis on the historic Marysville City Cemetery:

Assist or organize projects at each site, not limited to, but to include clean-up days at cemeteries within the County.

Perform fundraising events and seek grants to support project costs.

Identify and record all private and public burial grounds within the County to the greatest extent possible

Provide the research and information necessary so that unmarked graves can be identified and appropriately marked.  If an exact place of burial can not be ascertained within the cemetery grounds, encourage the placement of "memorial" markers at these sites.

Gather information on appropriate city, county, State and Federal regulations, codes, laws and accepted practices for historic cemeteries.

Make information available on appropriate care, cleaning and repair of historic stones and monuments.

Train, encourage, and coordinate volunteers in their specific areas of interest.

And other projects as may be deemed appropriate

Volunteers are an integral part of this project.  This is a "hands on" committee, where we actively work on approved projects at the cemeteries with the assistance of other volunteers.  The primary site we will focus on is the historic Marysville City Cemetery, with support to other districts as requested.  In respect to the Marysville City Cemetery, we will endeavor to work with the City of Marysville in whatever ways possible in support of the goals to preserve, protect and enhance this critical resource.

If you are interested in helping on this committee, please contact us by mail or email.

"Time and accident are committing daily havoc on the originals deposited in our public offices...the lost cannot be recovered, but let us save what remains; not by vaults and locks which fence them from the public eye and use...but by such as multiplication of copies, as shall be place them beyond the reach of accident."  Thomas Jefferson, 1791
